Wordpress plugins number in the 1,000s. Pretty much any hack someone has done to her template is recorded here Wordpress Plugins.

Painless to install, most just need you to upload them to your plugin directory ( /wordpress_install/wp-content/plugins);  then activate them in your Wordpress administration area ( Plugins ) to run.  A few plugins will require you to add a small bit of code to your template.

The plugins you won’t be able to live with out include:
Akismet
Google sitemap generator
WP-db-backup

Some plugins, like Aksimet, require a key. Go to Wordpress.com and sign up for a free account if you haven’t already. Log in if you already have an account. Then go to ‘My Account’ and then to your ‘My Profile’ page. Your key will be listed there. Make a copy and keep it with the backup files for your blog.
